the ceiling fan light becomes dark

Many families use ceiling fan lights as the main source of light in the room and after a period of use find that the ceiling fan light has dimmed.   The main reasons for a dim ceiling fan light are: the remote control for the ceiling fan light is set to dim and weak, the bulb is weak and has a low lumen output, or the ceiling fan is fitted with a power limiter. The next three methods teach you how to bring ceiling fan lights back from dim light to bright.

Method 1 : Remote control adjustment

If your ceiling fan light is controlled by remote control, you can solve this problem by adjusting it with a button.

Most of the remote controls that come with ceiling fans are able to control the intensity of the ceiling fan lights. Many people are unaware of this as some manufacturers do not mention this function in the user manual. It is important to note that the buttons and controls will operate differently from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Method 2 : Replace the bulb

If remote control operation has no apparent effect, this can be done by replacing the light bulb. Most ceiling fans come with a label indicating the maximum wattage allowed for the installation of the ceiling fan bulb. If the maximum wattage allowed for the ceiling fan bulb is 40W, you do not necessarily need a higher wattage output to make the light brighter.

This is because the brightness of a bulb is not measured in watts, but by lumens.

For example, an ordinary 40W filament bulb has an output of approximately 450 lumens. This means that an incandescent filament bulb will consume the maximum wattage allowed (if it is installed in a maximum 40W luminaire). LED bulbs, on the other hand, consume far less power than filament bulbs.

So basically the recommendation for the maximum lumen output of the bulb is to choose an LED bulb.

Manufacturers always compare LED bulbs with traditional filament bulbs by providing equivalent power values on the packaging. For example, a '40W efficacy' LED bulb indicates that the performance of the bulb is the same as the efficacy and performance of a 40W filament bulb, but in reality the LED bulb will only consume 9W of power at the same lumen level.

So for the same lumen output, LED bulbs are guaranteed to not exceed the maximum wattage allowed for a ceiling fan's bulb, while reducing energy by approximately 80%. This means that you can install LED bulbs with a higher lumen output and make the room light up even brighter.

The following is a comparison of lumens versus incandescent lamp power/LED lamp power:

Replacing the old bulb with a new LED bulb will make the room brighter. 450 lumens is the perfect brightness to ensure that the brightness is not uncomfortable for the eyes.

Method 3 - Power limiter adjustment

The purpose of a power limiter, also commonly referred to as a current limiter, is to convert excess wattage and limit the total wattage to a certain range. The power limiter is usually connected between the light source and the pull switch, so removing it requires the pull switch to be connected directly to the light source to achieve this.

If you are experienced and familiar with electrical wiring circuits you can change the bulbs and adjust the power limiter yourself, otherwise it is advisable to consult your local electrician or contact the ceiling fan manufacturer for assistance to protect yourself!
